An apprentice story
Starting an apprenticeship in Customer Service developed Sophie’s skills, and not only did she work on the new Apprentice Standard, she completed an additional Customer Service qualification alongside. Sophie completed her first apprenticeship in October 2018 and was the first person in the Trust to achieve a Distinction in this new qualification. The whole apprenticeship journey saw Sophie grow from a quiet and shy teenager to a confident young lady with a great career ahead.
Sophie went on to secure employment at Lincoln Academy, in an administrative role in which she also works on reception. She is also being mentored and works alongside the Head’s PA to develop new skills, while completing a further Level 3 qualification in Business Administration.
Here is what Sophie has to say:
“I previously worked in retail, but this didn’t challenge me enough, so I chose to take on an apprenticeship and go down a route of being able to earn whilst gaining a qualification. It enabled me to widen my knowledge and to continue learning new skills. My latest project is building a business from scratch and, being mentored by a tutor with hands-on experience is a totally different approach which I love. My goal is to become a Head’s PA in the future.”
