Laboratory Technician (Level 3)
Accurate scientific support is crucial to research, education, and industry. The Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship provides your workforce with the practical skills and technical knowledge to carry out essential laboratory tasks and ensure reliable, high-quality results.
The Level 3 Laboratory Technician apprenticeship develops skilled professionals who play a key role in supporting laboratory settings and experiments across a variety of sectors.
Designed to meet the needs of laboratories in education, healthcare, research, and industry, this apprenticeship equips individuals with expertise in preparing and testing samples, using scientific instruments, recording and analysing data, and maintaining health, safety, and quality standards. Apprentices gain the technical knowledge and hands-on experience to ensure laboratory operations run smoothly and contribute to reliable scientific outcomes.
Duration
24 months + 4 month assessment period
Delivery Method
Delivered via a monthly workshop at our academy in Lincoln. Training can also be delivered at the employer site, and is supported through regular visits from our Occupational Experts. Reach out if your business has a particular need.

Progression Pathways
A Laboratory Technician Apprentice develops a range of skills suitable Laboratory settings, as well as the knowledge to continue to study further. An apprentice may progress into:
- Lead Technician
- Senior Technician
- Apprentices may choose to specialise in a particular field
- A degree or degree apprenticeship
- Eligible for Professional Registration (e.g., RSciTech or RSci via the Science Council)
